By | | Bay Area News GroupA man suspected of driving under the influence on U.S. Highway 101 died Tuesday night after trying to run from California Highway Patrol officers and being hit by a San Mateo County sheriff’s patrol car driving on the highway, the CHP said.Authorities did not identify the man immediately, pending notification of family members. He died at the scene.Just after 10 p.m. CHP officers observed a black Honda Civic that was disabled on the right shoulder of Highway 101 in the southbound direction, just north of Broadway in Burlingame.CHP spokesman Officer Arturo Montiel said when officers contacted the driver, there were “signs of intoxication” and they performed field sobriety tests. At about 10:40 p.m., officers told the driver he was being placed under arrest on suspicion of driving under the influence of drugs, Montiel said.The driver then ran from officers, Montiel said.
