Chris Sununu said now's not the time for a victory lap.Daily new cases are up 20% compared to last week, showing that the virus is still spreading in the state. But figures from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention show New Hampshire is well ahead of neighboring states in delivering shots.To date, New Hampshire has received 843,385 doses of vaccine and administered 796,674 of them, or 94.46%. According to the CDC, Massachusetts ranks ninth in the country, distributing 88% of doses received. Maine is 11th on the list, and Vermont ranks 27th. "We're not at the point where we should be taking victory laps on anything," Sununu said. "We are still in the thick of it. We are working so hard, just trying to get the vaccine out."Coos County is leading all New Hampshire counties by a significant margin, with 25% of its population inoculated. That's more than double the percentage in Hillsborough County, where 12% of residents are vaccinated, according to the CDC."So, I don't focus on any individual data point," Sununu said. "It's nice that we are doing well, and I think overall, we are doing well."The state's strategy for distribution is tailored for rural versus urban, and vaccine supplies coming into the state determine how much each county is allocated."How we distribute the vaccine in those areas can be very different," Sununu said. "And I think the team has done a really good job appreciating those differences and making sure it's available to everyone."Another point of pride for state officials is the high vaccination rate among New Hampshire health care workers."We have a lot of folks in our health care workforce," Sununu said. "I think we are No. 1 in the country for getting our health care workers vaccinated, and I think that gives a lot of confidence to the general public, as well."New Hampshire Motor Speedway will host another mass vaccination event this weekend, but the state's fixed sites are phasing out soon."I think over the next few weeks, we're going to try to get more doctors and more pharmacies to come on board and be part of that long-term solution for individuals," Sununu said. "The state does not plan to be in the vaccination game for the long term.
