Portugal said it would sending troops to as clashes continued around the besieged town where Islamist insurgents have killed dozens people in a days-long rampage.&nbsp;Lisbon said it would deploy around 60 special forces troops to its former colony to train the country's armed forces in counter-terrorism techniques, in the first announcement of a deployment by a Western nation since the attack began.&nbsp;The UN reported ongoing , where thousands of people are still believed to be in hiding from militias who stormed into the town on Wednesday.&nbsp;Communications were largely cut on Tuesday, and it was unclear whether the Mozambique military had made any progress in retaking the area by evening.&nbsp;DAG, a South African private security contractor hired by the Mozambique government to fight the insurgency, continued to fly light helicopters on rescue and combat missions until darkness on Tuesday night.&nbsp;Lionel Dyck, the director of the company, told South African media that his men managed to rescue about 120 people the previous day but others remained in the bush and the situation remained "quite chaotic."Insurgents affiliated with the Islamic State group overran Palma, a coastal town in Mozambique's Cabo Delgado province, last Wednesday.&nbsp;The insurgents looted buildings and beheaded civilians just six miles from a multi-billion dollar gas project on the Afungi peninsula led by France's Total.The International Organization for Migration on Tuesday said 3,360 displaced people had safely reached surrounding districts. Aid agencies said they believed many others remained, including as many as 5000 gathered around a lighthouse near Total's gas installation.&nbsp;Adriano Nuvunga, the director for the Centre for Democracy and Development, an NGO based in the capital Maputo, said on Tuesday he feared numbers killed were higher than the "dozens" so far reported.&nbsp;"Palma is deserted, locals are finding safe areas. &nbsp;Many working people have people been rescued, and military defence forces are trying to regain control of Palma.
