Concord police Officer Aaron Khamosh rescued a toddler who had suffered a fentanyl overdose (Photo courtesy Concord Police Dept.).A Concord police officer is being lauded for his actions after saving a baby that had been exposed to fentanyl last week.Officer Aaron Khamosh’s heroics on March 26 were recounted on the Concord Police Department’s Facebook page Monday and had been “liked” by 1,700 people by 1 p.m. Another 175 people shared the post.The officer was not available immediately for comment.“We are grateful the baby will survive this ordeal and for Officer Khamosh’s quick thinking,” police said in a statementAccording to police, Khamosh was on patrol when a driver frantically waved him down on Salvio Street at an undisclosed time Friday night. The officer got to the car and saw a 2-year-old in the back seat who wasn’t breathing.Khamosh immediately began performing CPR that included chest compressions, police said, and the baby didn’t respond. When the baby grew pale, police said the woman told Khamosh the toddler “got ahold of fentanyl.”He administered two doses of Narcan, a drug that can offset an opioid overdose. The baby regained consciousness, and Khamosh continued the CPR until paramedics from the Contra Costa Fire Protection District arrived. An ambulance took the toddler to UCSF Benioff Children’s Hospital in Oakland and is expected to recover.Police arrested the unidentified person on suspicion of child endangerment and possession of a narcotic.
