Milwaukee Journal SentinelWASHINGTON – In the midst of the U.S. House debate Wednesday over the $1.9 trillion stimulus plan, Wisconsin Republican Glenn Grothman said in his floor remarks that Black Lives Matter “doesn't like the old-fashioned family,” prompting an impassioned rebuke from a Democratic colleague&nbsp;who represents the Virgin Islands, delegate Stacey Plaskett.Grothman, who represents Wisconsin's Sixth Congressional District,&nbsp;argued that the expansion of the earned income tax credit for single people contained in the bill penalizes marriage.“I bring it up because I know the strength that Black Lives Matter had in this last election. I know it's a group that doesn't like the old-fashioned family — (I am) disturbed that we have another program here in which we're increasing the marriage penalty,” The House later passed the bill 220-211, sending the measure to President Joe Biden.&nbsp;Plaskett, who is African American,&nbsp;fired back:“How dare you, how dare you say that Black Lives Matter, (that) Black people do not understand old-fashioned families despite some of the issues, some of the things that you have put forward that I've heard out of your mouth in the Oversight Committee, in your own district,” she said.&nbsp;&nbsp;“We have been able to keep our families alive for over 400 years, and the assault on our families to not have Black lives or not even have Black families. How dare you say that we are not interested in families in the Black community. That is outrageous. That should be stricken down," said Plaskett, who served recently as one of the House impeachment managers.&nbsp;&nbsp;Her remarks drew applause from Democrats on the floor.&nbsp;Grothman also criticized a provision of the COVID-19 relief bill aimed at providing debt relief and other assistance to disadvantaged Black farmers. Advocates of the provision cite historic mistreatment of African American farmers and the loss of agricultural land. Grothman called that part of the bill&nbsp;"incredibly divisive" because, "Some people are going to get forgiveness. Some people aren't."&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;Senate Democrat Tammy Baldwin of Wisconsin lauded Plasketton Twitter for her response to Grothman, saying, "Systemic racism is real. Even on the floor of Congress. I stand with @StaceyPlaskett and thank her for speaking truth to power."In an interview with the&nbsp;Journal Sentinel after the House vote, Grothman said Plaskett misrepresented his remarks as referring to the Black community, saying they were directed only at Black Lives Matter.&nbsp;"Obviously I didn’t say those things, so she’s making stuff up. I am referring to the Black Lives Matter organization and its Marxist founders," said Grothman, citing a past , no longer on its website, that "We disrupt the Western-prescribed nuclear family structure requirement by supporting each other as extended families and ‘villages’ that collectively care for one another, especially our children, to the degree that mothers, parents, and&nbsp;children are comfortable."&nbsp;Asked why he brought up Black Lives Matter when referring to the "marriage penalty," Grothman said, "I put the two together. We&nbsp;have the power of Black Lives Matter, which is opposed to the nuclear&nbsp;family, and another program,&nbsp;or expansion of a current program, which penalizes you for getting married. I don't think we point this stuff out enough."&nbsp;
