House bill would allow employees to refuse vaccination, invasive medical testWGAL News 8A proposed Pennsylvania House bill would give workers the right to refuse to get a vaccination or invasive medical test required by an employer.The House Labor and Industry Committee held a public hearing Thursday about House Bill 262.The legislation would make it illegal for employers to fire, threaten, retaliate against or discriminate against employees who opt out of a vaccine or invasive medical test.Employers could be sued for violating the law, which would also cover prospective employees.Rep. Russ Diamond (R-Lebanon County) is sponsoring the bill and said it’s a matter of sticking up for personal liberties.Diamond said he’s heard from Pennsylvanians who are wary of the COVID-19 vaccine and don’t qualify for religious or disability exemptions."There's a big concern among the public about this vaccine itself. This uses mRNA technology and, quite frankly, a lot of people are very leery of that,” he said.Lawmakers also heard from members of the business and health care communities who expressed concerns about the legislation.“Lower vaccination rates among health care workers will impact hospitals' ability to provide quality care to patients.
