Under the governor’s plan, 10% of the state’s vaccine supply will be earmarked for education workers each week in a statewide effort to hasten school reopenings.Teachers are in a current priority tier for vaccination, along with emergency responders, farmworkers and residents over 65, but there isn’t enough supply to give doses to everyone eligible yet.Contra Costa County received 1,000 teacher codes Monday and is expecting another trove on Friday, Chris Farnitano, a public health official, told the county’s Board of Supervisors on Tuesday.San Mateo County received 500 codes Sunday, which were distributed to education workers through a countywide priority process, said San Mateo County Superintendent of Schools Nancy Magee.Updated to include drought zones while tracking water shortage status of your area, plus reservoir levels and a list of restrictions for the Bay Area’s largest water districts.Alameda County received and distributed 2,500 single-use codes Tuesday through a system that assigned priority levels to each educator based on exposure and risk, said Michelle Smith McDonald, communications director for the Alameda County Office of Education. The county expects more codes to arrive by week’s end.Moscone Center has the capacity to administer more than 10,000 vaccines daily, but since opening Feb. 5 the vaccination site has struggled to meet high demand. The center was briefly shut down due to vaccine shortages last month.SFUSD’s disclosure comes as district officials scramble to prepare elementary schools ready for eventual reopening. After months of delays, the school board last week approved a health and safety agreement with the teachers union to get the youngest students back into classrooms, but there is no set date for a return.
