Kim Reynolds was one of many governors to sign a statement in opposition of how the recent relief bill would be distributed among states. On Saturday, Reynolds shared that she was one of 22 governors speaking out against President Joe Biden's stimulus bill that had just passed the U.S. House and was headed to the Senate. The governors who signed the letter were concerned with how the money would be distributed. They claim 33 states would lose funding in this bill including Iowa. The House Budget Republicans claims Iowa will lose $734 million. In her statement, Reynolds said, “Unlike all previous federal funding packages, the new stimulus proposal allocates aid based on a state’s unemployed population rather than its actual population, which punishes states that took a measured approach to the pandemic and entered the crisis with healthy state budgets and strong economies. A state’s ability to keep businesses open and people employed should not be a penalizing factor when distributing funds. If Congress is going to provide aid to states, it should be on an equitable population basis.”Governors of neighboring states have also signed the letter of opposition including Nebraska Gov. Pete Ricketts, Kansas Gov. Laura Kelly, Missouri Gov. Mike Parson and South Dakota Gov. Kristi Noem.Gov.
