City leaders want to make sure the food that you order for delivery is safe.Unfortunately, in a recent survey, 28% of drivers admitted they tasted your food before dropping it off at your house. A local leader said he’s even questioned some of the food delivered to his house.Channel 2′s learned that one city councilman has proposed an ordinance that would require restaurants to seal and timestamp their food when using a third-party delivery service.Atlanta City Councilman Antonio Brown said he wants to make sure delivered food is safe and fresh. He said he's had problems with deliveries to his own house."I've gotten bags that have been ripped open, items that have been opened," Brown said.RELATED STORIES:Huddleston talked to Cobb County mother Ceata Lash, who said she was disgusted to learn delivery drivers taste their customer's food.She said she and her family often have food delivered, especially now to support local businesses effected by the coronavirus."I totally agree with some type of container that once it's close, it's obvious it has some type of seal on it," Lash said.The same survey that revealed driver's taste food showed that 85% of people want a tamper-proof label on food.Brown said the ordinance to require protective labels would also protect local restaurants that use third-party delivery drivers."Right now, in the state of Georgia, they are not regulated," Brown said. "We have to put ownership on the actual restaurants, so when the food leaves their establishment, it's properly sealed."The City Council has moved the ordinance forward to see what the public has to say about it.© 2020 Cox Media Group
