THE POLICE CHIEF TELLS 12 NEWS OFFICERS HAVE DISCRETION TO MUTE THE AUDIO WHEN DISCUSSING TACTICS OR PRIVACY ISSUES RELATED TO THE CALL. The bar visit hit social media and police were called about a possible bond violation."Hi, you guys are looking at a problem," a caller told a Racine County 911 dispatch operator. "I'm actually calling from Kenosha. I'm an activist out here and there's a post online with a picture of Kyle Rittenhouse at Pudgy's on the 5th (of January). But you're probably gonna want to get eyes on Pudgy's because the post is like rapid-fire spreading."Three Mount Pleasant police officers went to Pudgy's looking for answers about the visit.They spoke with workers in the back of the bar.Rittenhouse was not in the bar when officers arrived."Do you have video surveillance from the 5th?" one officer asks. "Are you aware of the situation?"A man nodded and confirmed that Rittenhouse was at the bar."He was here. Mmm, OK," the officer replied."I guess I'm here because I'm worried once that gets out on the social media side of it, where, how can we protect here, where you don't have the crazies to come here and everything else like that," another officer told the employee.Then officers asked about underage drinking.The bar worker told the officer he didn't know if Rittenhouse was asked for identification."He came in with his parents," the man told officers."OK, we're good then, we're good that way, perfect," the officer replied.In Wisconsin, a person younger than age 21 can drink alcohol if it is in the presence of a parent."When I got this call, I was like, 'What the (expletive) are you guys thinking?' I don't know what they were thinking bringing him in here," the man told the officers.The officers continue to speak with the employee, but audio drops out of the body camera video and stays silent when officers speak with another employee.WISN 12 learned the officers muted their body cams."Officers have discretion to mute the audio when discussing tactics, or privacy issues, related to the call they are on," the police chief told WISN 12.It's unclear what was or wasn't said between bar staff and the officers.One employee said she did not recognize Rittenhouse."Honestly it just seemed like a regular person walking through the door," she told an officer.
