(WAOW)-- The Weston Board of Trustees voted during its meeting Monday to open the aquatic center for the 2021 season.The center opened at the end of June in 2020, and closed early to due to COVID-19, a lack of attendance and financial loss, according to documents included in the board's agenda.The recommendation of the parks department staff was to "open the Aquatic Center if we can open with at least 50% capacity and no other restrictions that would limit the operation and what we can provide.""This year we're trying to get you know as far as direction as far as opening the facility and then allowing staff to work through the minutia of all the details to do it safely," said Shawn Osterbink, Director of Parks, Recreation, and Forestry for Weston.Some of the changes for the upcoming season include allowing walk-ins, selling season passes, no reservations ahead of time, and no swimming lessons.No opening day date has been set.ROTHSCHILDThe Rothschild Pool Commission voted to open the Rothschild Schofield Aquatic Center the weekend of June 5.The city is looking for lifeguards.
