Excellent, in-depth piece from a credible source. The referenced issue is something that many readers (myself included) may not even have thought was a concern let alone a problem on the scale the article describes. A very worthwhile read that points up the lack of a basic necessity that is still lacking in some areas of the country even in the twenty-first century.

The maps are cool. A picture is worth a thousand words.
But I didn't see mention of the water waste issue, how flush toilets & a lack of gray water systems in urban areas creates huge water waste, and of course the water pollution impacts of the big industries.
Flush toilets are really a bad invention -- good that things smell better & the waste goes away, but bad b/c flush toilets waste enormous amounts of drinkable water and send our waste into places that shouldn't be getting it (generally waterways & the ocean), whereas farmlands could benefit from organic sewage (treated correctly).
We humans gotta rethink our most cherished human accomplishments to prevent ruining the environment!

Enlightening and deeply contextual article with graphs and maps to show. Length is short enough given the deep amount of information given.

This is a fantastic investigative look into what might be called plumbing inequality across the U.S. The two authors of this piece did a fantastic job of letting their research speak for itself, telling a hugely important story that few (including myself) ever think about. Well done and everyone should read this one!
