Stacking the Deck
August 6, 2019
The information presented about the study in this article appears to be credible, with a link to the study in the middle of the article. However, this information leaves out critical context as to what position is 'police-involved' deaths for young men compared to other reasons for death. For this, the article stacks the deck by giving information only on how 'police-involved' deaths are a leading cause.

Sensational
August 7, 2019
The article's headline states that police involved death is a leading cause of death. The article gives numbers for those deaths but never provides support for that claim. There is no comparison with other causes of death to show that this is a leading cause.

Study Misinterpreted
August 7, 2019
It's obvious to most that young men of color are disproportionately killed in police encounters as compared to other demographics, however I'll want to see more studies on this topic. It's definitely worth reporting on and I'm glad Ed Cara is covering it, but he should have done more to discuss the methodology of the study and whether or not other studies corroborate the findings.

Science Misrepresented
August 7, 2019
This article does not have sufficient differentiation in the cited study to determine the level of involvement accurately. The article presents the case of this being concrete, but that is not at all true.
