A CRASH REPORT SAYS - WINK CROSSED THE CENTER LINE - PLOWING INTO DANYEL HARDISTY'S CAR HEAD ON. THE 39 YEAR OLD MOTHER DIED AT THE SCENE. &lt;(CRYING) IT'S SO UPSETTING. IT'S SO SHOCKING. The crash happened at approximately 9:39 p.m. on Feb. 2, in the 15000 block of J Avenue, south of Perry. Fifty-three-year-old Stephen Wink is charged with driving while barred, driving with a revoked license, driving under suspension and open container."He had several open bottles of alcohol that were witnessed by several different deputies," said Dallas County Chief Deputy Adam Infante.An Iowa State crash report states that Wink crossed the center line, crashing head-on into a vehicle driven by 39-year-old Danyel Hardisty. Hardisty died at the scene. Infante said he is waiting for Wink's blood test results to come back from the DCI crime lab. "I can tell you I anticipate filing OWI and vehicular homicide charges in this case when I get all of those results back," said Infante. "It's so upsetting. It's so shocking. It's really frustrating that this man is on the road," said Hardisty's sister, Amanda Holste-Strayer.Hardisty's son, Javen Sorensen, is at the University of Iowa Stead Family Children's Hospital with serious injuries. He has had one surgery and will undergo another surgery Wednesday morning. "He broke his legs, upper and lower. He has a skull fracture. He broke fingers. He has internal bruising on his liver and lungs, some lacerations in his ears," said Holste-Strayer."That poor kid didn't do anything. He was just in the back seat, in a car seat, with a seat belt on. He was just a completely innocent victim," said Infante.Online court records show Wink had a lengthy history of driving offenses and was barred from driving with 22 with drawls on his license. "Mr. Wink should not have been driving, under any circumstances," said Infante. "We're doing everything we can to make sure that Mr. Wink gets punished for what he did to the fullest extent of what the Iowa law will allow."Hardisty's family is now focused on Javen's recovery and remembering her as caring and authentic."She worked with disabled adults and elderly and veterans. It wasn't just her work life where she served others before herself," said Holste-Strayer.Hardisty worked as a certified nursing assistant at the Veterans Hospital in Des Moines. She was supposed to receive an award this week for service excellence. "She just genuinely loved loving others and people really felt that," said Holste-Strayer.
