Some people waiting to receive their COVID-19 vaccine were able to schedule appointments Tuesday through CVS, causing confusion since they said sign-ups wouldn't be live until later this week.11:33 AM, Feb 09, 2021RICHMOND, Va. -- Despite announcing late Monday that it was , some people waiting to receive their COVID-19 vaccine were able to schedule appointments Tuesday through CVS Pharmacy."The state of Virginia asked us to open our scheduling system early for those who pre-registered for a vaccination through their local department of health," CVS spokesperson Amy Thibault wrote in an email. "We have accommodated this request and Virginians who pre-registered can now look for available appointments in our system."While some people were able to make appointments, others were met with messages informing them the vaccine was not yet available or the supply was too limited to make an appointment."Beginning on Thursday, anyone over the age of 65+ (regardless of whether they have pre-registered with their local health department) will be able to look for appointments," Thibault's email continued. "Additional appointments will open as we receive additional doses next week."The CVS vaccine allocation of 26,000 total doses a week will be provided in addition to Virginia's weekly allotment of vaccine doses from the federal government.Thibault said the 26,000 weekly doses will be divided among the 36 pharmacy locations in Virginia.Appointment times are expected to fill up quickly.CVS has not released participating CVS locations and asked people do not call individual stores, but rather sign up through or app.This is a developing story.Copyright 2021 Scripps Media, Inc.
