Prosecutors in court identified the store as Morelia Supermarket, and said a store employee asked her to put on a mask, and then gave her one to wear.Chaparro-Hernandez was allowed to use the bathroom, and when she came out, she continued to walk around the store without a mask. She was then told she’d have to leave the store because she wasn’t complying with store policy to wear a mask, said Officer Steve Rusanov, a Chicago police spokesman.AdvertisementChaparro-Hernandez began throwing items she was set to buy at the cash register, then left the store with an unidentified man who’d arrived with her, Rusanov said.Prosecutors said Chaparro-Hernandez retrieved a baseball bat from her car, then swung the bat at a glass window between the sliding entrance and exit doors, shattering it and causing $6,495 in damage. Police said she returned to her car and drove away.Surveillance video captured the incident, prosecutors said in court. Rusanov said that, once police were able to identify Chaparro-Hernandez, officers arrested her Saturday.At her Sunday bond hearing, Chaparro-Hernandez’s court-appointed attorney told the judge that Chaparro-Hernandez is a mother of three who has worked for Aldi full time for two years. Chaparro-Hernandez told the judge her workplace is about an hour away from where she lives.Citing in part a 2014 domestic battery case that led to probation, Associate Judge Charles Beach on Sunday set bond at $3,000, and noted that she could post 10%, or $300, to be released. If she couldn’t post it, she’d be released in 10 days, Beach said. And, regardless, of when she was released, he ordered her to be on curfew from 6 p.m. to 4 a.m., with electronic monitoring, and to stay away from the Morelia store.A woman who answered the phone at Morelia said no one was immediately available at the store to discuss the incident.
