COLUMBIA, S.C. (WIS) - Starting February 15, those interested in becoming EMT’s will have the opportunity to do so for free in Columbia.Medshore Ambulance is providing an accelerated, 8-week EMT basic class and will cover the costs of tuition, certification and testing for 12 applicants who are selected for the program.The company plans to offer this course again on a regular schedule in the future. Applicants not accepted into this program will have the opportunity to put their application forward for future classes.Medshore will also offer a training wage and a full benefits package as a full-time employee during classroom hours throughout the course.In partnership with Midlands Technical College, classroom instruction will be held on MTC’s campus and students will complete both clinical and shift ride-alongs at Medshore on its 911 and inter-facility ambulances.Those accepted into the program will be fully trained and on-boarded to begin working on a Medshore ambulance upon passing the National Registry exam.Upon passing the exam, EMTs are ready to work on an ambulance making up to $30,000 a year with room to grow up to $45,000 with additional shift-friendly, sponsored paramedic certification.This course is offered with a two-year employment commitment. Qualified applicants will be required to take an aptitude test provided by MTC.
