Misused Term

The press is over-the-top with this flap. Love or leave it and its variants are not racist speech acts. That the people Trump said it about identify as persons of color does not determine the intent of the sentiment. I grew up when “love it or leave” was a sentiment on the tip of almost every conservative's tongue. It was obnoxious, but it wasn't racist. If somebody said to a hippy, "Hey, commie, why don't you back to your shithole country," that this was a "racist" comment would not cross anybody's mind. ("Shithole" is not a racist term, either.) Chauvinist? You bet. It is a reactionary expression of national pride. But its racial character is imposed externally. Not everything is racist.

This is speculating based on twitter events, and is in no way credible evidence. People need to stop trying to use twitter as a source. The comments they cited are not racist.

Another instance where the headline damages the credibility of the article. While I believe the author of this article was able to present the information and responses from the House of Rep's and Democratic Nominees, in a way that was balanced and somewhat contextual, it is up to personal opinion whether those tweets are racist and that's not what my review is about. The headline makes it a political agenda.

This is a politically driven opportunity to attack Trump as a racist for recent tweets that, when examined, are not actually racist. In fact, the tweets are hardly evidence of anything since it is unclear who Trump is even referring to. This is another example of Twitter feuds being treated as newsworthy and partisan tribal politics pouncing on any opportunity available to tarnish the other side.
