A group of Houstonians brought their calls for Ted Cruz's resignation to the senator's doorstep.The "pallbearers for Cruz," a self-described group of anarchists unaffiliated with any specific organization, carried three coffins to Cruz's Houston home before placing them on the lawn.BEFORE INAUGURATION DAY:According to a statement, each coffin respectively represented those that died during the riot at the U.S. Capitol on Jan. 6, Cruz's career, and the Texas senator's call to reject electoral votes based on President Donald Trump's repeated disproven claims of widespread election fraud, which the group said has damaged American democracy."Ted Cruz was elected to office as a 'constitutional conservative' and has broken his oath to defend the constitution to pander to his base," the group . "His lies have cost American lives. It is time for Ted Cruz to retire and allow someone who will defend the constitution to represent the State of Texas. Today, Ted Cruz should resign."Cruz has faced widespread calls for his resignation since Jan. 6, when a pro-Trump mob stormed and breached the U.S. Capitol, resulting in the deaths of five people and delaying the certification of the 2020 presidential election.Cruz was one of the most vocal challengers of certifying the results and ultimately voted to object to Arizona and Pennsylvania's vote counts after the riot.Several have said that Cruz's vocal dissent to the election results spurred the mob. New Yorker reporter Luke Mogelson one rioter rifling through a lawmaker's papers in the Senate chamber, saying, "I think Cruz would want us to do this, I think we’re good."Cruz has maintained he bears no responsibility for the attack on the Capitol and condemned the violence.“What I was doing and what the other senators were doing is what we were elected to do, which is debating matters of great import in the chamber of the United States Senate," . "I joined with 11 other Senators and we proposed to the Senate that Congress should appoint an electoral commission.”
