Andy Beshear from shutting down schools and businesses again as part of efforts to prevent the spread of COVID-19.House Bill 1 allows any business, organization or school district to remain open as long as it complies with CDC guidelines."We really appreciate the lawmakers for listening to what we had to say," said Jason Brauner, the co-owner of Bourbon's Bistro.Some Louisville restaurant owners praised the Republican-led house Thursday after the passage of House Bill 1, which will protect businesses from a possible third shutdown due to COVID-19. "It's good to know that they're actually trying to pass a bill that will help us to stay open no matter what," said Guy Genoud, the owner of Brasserie Provence.He says his business as well as others are not just complying with CDC guidelines for restaurants and bars, but have gone above it these past few months."We want to make it safe for everybody, we want to make it safe for the customers, but we want to make it safe for our staff," said Genoud.The bill passed 70-23, along party lines. Democrats argued Republicans are shackling Beshear’s ability to manage the pandemic. The governor has issued a series of mandates over the past few months to try to clamp down on COVID-19 surges in the commonwealth.Republicans believe Beshear’s restrictions have been t0o burdensome.The bill now goes to the Senate.House Bill 1 is among the proposals lawmakers are working to move through the Republican-controlled State Capitol.
