Chris Kim. “When they went downstairs to check, they were confronted by these males. The other homeowner came home. At some point they both were assaulted and (the suspects) made off with some property.”The homeowners, a 76-year-old male and 62-year-old female, were taken to the hospital for their injuries.One of the suspects was arrested by Monday afternoon, but the second man still remains at large.HPD took to social media to seek the public’s help in finding the individual.Manoa Neighborhood Board Chair Dylan Armstrong said he’s seen a rise in more brazen crimes in the area.“Over the last few months, we’ve had home invasions,” said Dylan Armstrong. “We’ve had people attacked or robbed while they’re walking on the largest roads in Manoa.”“Before the pandemic, you’d have these burglaries that would happen where the homeowners would be at work or would be out and about. But just due to the pandemic, a lot of people are at home now. What we’re starting to see is that (the burglars are) breaking in while the homeowners are there, not expecting that.”Sgt. Chris Kim, CrimestoppersHe said some tips for people to protect their home include making sure their doors are locked even when they are home, installing security cameras at their front door or in rooms within the house and even forming bonds with neighbors so that they can let each other know if something happens.“(Neighbors) kind of know each other’s schedules with each other,” said Kim. “You know what cars belong there, what cars don’t. If you see anything suspicious you know, you can always call your neighbors (and say) I see these (strangers) outside your house. Are these people your relatives or friends?”Anyone with information on this case is asked to call police.
