CHARLOTTE, N.C. (WBTV) - The North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services is reporting an “outbreak” of coronavirus at The Citadel, a long-term care facility in Rowan County, and at a facility in Cabarrus County.The Cabarrus Health Alliance learned of a COVID-19 case at Five Oaks Rehabilitation in Concord.According to the state, a COVID-19 outbreak is defined as two or more laboratory-confirmed cases. An outbreak is considered over after 28 days have passed since the date of symptom onset of the last case.“We are working closely with Five Oaks throughout this process,” said Interim Director of the Cabarrus Health Alliance Erin Shoe. “We appreciate their full cooperation. Everyone continues to work diligently on mitigation strategies to stop the virus from spreading."Both facilities are investigating to find out those who have been in close contact with those who have tested positive for the virus.The Citadel is located on Julian Road in Salisbury. It was formerly known as Genesis, and is owned by Accordius Health.“We have conducted our investigation and continue to work with them,” said Rowan County health Department Director Nina Oliver. “They are currently doing everything appropriately and have acquired tests. We will continue to monitor and assist them.”In situations where all persons in a congregate living setting test positive for COVID-19, the outbreak will be considered over when all persons have recovered or been released from isolation.According to NCDHHS, Cabarrus County has 86 positive confirmed cases of COVID-19, Rowan County has 71.Copyright 2020 WBTV.
