Dulce Rivera lived for the one hour a day she was allowed outside, to pace alone on a patch of concrete encased in metal fencing. They called it “the yard,” but it was really a metal cage. Still, it was far better than the misery she endured the other 23 hours a day, locked alon...

Provided history on the punitive use of isolation, current US laws regarding it's use and multiple examples of abuse within the immigrant detention system. It also highlights the whistleblower activities of one high ranking employee of Homeland Security.

Long but in-depth investigative article that recounts specific stories from ICE detainees and their extreme experiences. The Intercept collaborated on this investigation with ICIJ and includes links for deeper reading as well as quotes from ICE officials. Very disturbing content that proposes mental health issues from being in solitary confinement beyond United Nations rapporteur.

"Some detainees spent weeks or months in isolation." I was surprised to hear about this issue this morning on Democracy Now. Article seems fairly unbiased and fact based.

This is what journalism is for, doing in-depth RESEARCH and COVERAGE of a horrifying issue being under discussed and potentially hidden. This article summarizes the investigation by the International Consortium of Investigative Journalism about the rates of ICE detainees being put in solitary confinement.

“The way of the transgressor is hard.” It’s a hard life & even harder when you break the law & get caught. Obama may have promised you a rose garden, but times have changed. I noticed that one of the stories takes place in New Mexico. My mom who lived two decades in Silver City had to leave because of the lack of safety due to all the illegals in the state. Get a visa to enter the country! If you can’t, stay home. Didn’t they know they were risking their lives coming here? All the thousands who die from illegals drunk driving, stabbings, shootings, rapes, abductions… Sorry, cry me a river. It’s a very one-sided article & though the prison system seems very bleak, they shouldn’t have broken the law. Solitary is for people that are a danger to themselves or others. They should correct the abuses, of course, but until they do; don’t enter the country illegally. It’s not your home! i didn't see these spin doctors talk about what landed them in jail either. they gloss over their crimes.
