The Eversource customers without power included 1,503 in Danbury, 1,327 in Ridgefield, 1,251 in Woodbury, 689 in Washington, 641 in Newtown, 450 in New Milford, 445 in Sherman, 346 in Sharon, 305 in Redding and 293 in New Fairfield.In comparison, at one point on Friday morning, some 36,000 Connecticut Eversource customers did not have power. In addition, 400 UI customers started the day without power.At 10 a.m., some wind gusts had reached 60 miles an hour, toppling trees and power lines and causing outages, according to Eversource officials.More News“We prepare for severe weather every day,” said Eversource spokesman Mitch Gross. There were forecasts “saying high winds and heavy winds and that is what we got.”There were also significant outages and damage in the southeast corner of the state.By mid-afternoon, the outages had decreased to under 14,000 customers.There were hundreds of line and tree crews working Friday, supported by crews from Massachusetts and New Hampshire, Gross said.The National Weather Service predicts sun and temperatures peaking around the freezing mark for Saturday.
