Milwaukee Journal SentinelA city Election Commission meeting using the videoconferencing software Zoom was abruptly halted on Sunday afternoon shortly after it was hacked in a practice called Zoombombing.&nbsp;Neil Albrecht, executive director of the commission, shut down the videoconference after radical Muslim&nbsp;and crude pornographic images and racial slurs began appearing on the computer screens of all those participating in the meeting.It took Albrecht and the three commissioners a couple of minutes to realize that the meeting had been hijacked by anonymous outsiders. He then engaged in a brief conversation with an individual claiming to be a Zoom tech.Assistant City Attorney Patrick McClain eventually ordered Albrecht to halt the videoconference. There were a couple of dozen people&nbsp;participating in or watching the meeting.&nbsp;"It was an outrageous hack," Milwaukee Mayor Tom Barrett, who is running for re-election, said just minutes after the meeting was Zoombombed."Oh, my God," said state Sen. Lena Taylor, a Milwaukee Democrat running against Barrett. "That is crazy."&nbsp;Live Updates:Daily Digest:The commission meeting has been rescheduled for 11 a.m. Monday.Numerous&nbsp;users of Zoom have been complaining about their private meetings being hacked.&nbsp;The practice, known as Zoombombing, occurs when outside individuals join a video gathering and seek to disrupt it.Zoombombing has increasingly become a problem as more people use the service to conduct virtual meetings to maintain social distancing guidelines aimed at&nbsp;curtailing the spread of coronavirus. Officials with Zoom have said they've to prevent users from being Zoombombed.Participants in the election commission meeting on Sunday did not have to enter a password to participate .&nbsp;RELATED:Reid Magney, spokesman for the state Elections Commission, said his agency has not any problems with Zoom but was aware that other had. He said the commission has consulted with its cyber security staff on the best way to avoid disruptions.&nbsp;City election commissioners were meeting to decide what to do with absentee ballots received after April 7, the date of the election,&nbsp;without a postmark.Albrecht told the commission that the city had 354 such absentee ballots, with the vast majority of those coming in on the two days after the election.&nbsp;The&nbsp;U.S. Supreme Court&nbsp; that ballots postmarked by April 7 and received by municipalities by April 13 can be counted in the election.&nbsp;Albrecht said the city plans to release the unofficial results of the election around 4 p.m. on Monday.&nbsp;Mary Spicuzza of the Journal Sentinel staff contributed to this report.Contact Daniel Bice at (414) 224-2135 or&nbsp;dbice@jrn.com.
