A paramedic killed a domestic abuser who shot him and his colleague as they treated the gunman’s battered girlfriend, police say.Kevin Curl, 22, died after he allegedly opened fire and struck Joshua Godfrey, 35, and his colleague John Spriggs, 21. Both emergency responders were shot in the chest, pelvis and abdomen at Curl family’s home in Pine Bluff, Arkansas on Wednesday morning.Spriggs is then said to have shot Curl in self-defense, with Curl ultimately dying of the gunshot wound to his chest.The paramedics showed up at the house to treat Curl’s unnamed 20 year-old girlfriend. She suffered an injured knee, with the paramedic who killed the alleged domestic abuser saying Curl was to blame for the woman’s injuries.Curl is said to have approached the EMTs ‘aggressively,’ without his shirt on as they began to treat the woman. Spriggs told him to back up, only for Curl to shove Spriggs and ask him what he was going to do about it, the reported.Spriggs said he defended himself after being pushed by punching Curl. Curl is then accused of brandishing his gun and shooting three times, striking both EMTs. Spriggs then pulled out his own gun, and returned fire, hitting Curl on the chest.Curl ran back inside the house screaming ‘Dad.’ His father, who has not been named, said Curl crawled into the house and lay on the kitchen floor. He was dead by the time police arrived.Officers also found Godfrey sitting in the back of the ambulance while bleeding. Spriggs was lying on the ground next to the ambulance.Both men were rushed to hospital for surgery.
