Reno Gazette JournalView CommentsThe Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives raided a Dayton-based gun manufacturing company, Polymer80, on Dec. 10.&nbsp;Polymer80 is suspected of manufacturing and selling illegal firearms, failing to properly pay taxes, shipping firearms to customers in different states and failing&nbsp;to conduct background checks on customers who want to purchase a firearm, according to an &nbsp;filed in U.S District Court by ATF Special Agent Tolliver Hart&nbsp;on Dec. 9.Polymer80 sells a product called the "Buy Build Shoot" kit&nbsp;which includes all the necessary parts to build a functioning firearm. ATF agents purchased several kits and had them delivered to California, according to the affidavit.&nbsp;These guns, which do not have a licensing serial number&nbsp;or&nbsp;manufacturer's mark, are referred to as "ghost guns".&nbsp;In 2019, Polymer80's ghost guns were used in hundreds of crimes across&nbsp;the country, including but not limited to: kidnapping, domestic violence, robbery and homicide, according to the ATF.Before the raid, an ATF Senior Special Agent bought two kits under an undercover identity.&nbsp;The agent provided a&nbsp;credit card number, phone number and email address when checking out.&nbsp;Polymer80 did not require or request the agent's Social Security number, date of birth, driver's license number of any other forms of identification, all of which are required for a criminal background check when purchasing a firearm, according to the affidavit.&nbsp;Without the criminal background check, licensed businesses&nbsp;cannot legally sell or transfer a firearm, the affidavit details.The agent was asked to check a terms and condition box which included several questions such as "I am not a fugitive from justice" and "I am not prohibited from possessing firearms under federal or state law."More:The document claims that the agent assembled a&nbsp;fully functioning firearm with the items provided in the kit&nbsp;in approximately three hours. A confidential informant working with ATF assembled it in 21 minutes.&nbsp;ATF agents seized records and other physical evidence related to the manufacturing and sales of the ghost guns.&nbsp;Polymer80 defended itself on social media, saying that they are cooperating with law enforcement agencies. They also reassured the public that they have a "hard-earned reputation as an industry leader and corporate citizen" and that they value the relationship they have with clients.&nbsp;"We have vigorously defended the personal liberties of our customers, and we will continue to fight for our customers, while continuing to operate within the bounds of – and supporting – the U.S. Constitution and the law.
