The light display now has its own with almost 400 followers. Mid-Atlantic Aerial captured drone photos of it in all its glory. The homeowner was called “The hero that 2020 needed” on 98 Rock.AdvertisementOver last week, before the lights went dark, neighbors said traffic on Ramblewood increased like never before as drivers slowed to see the display. The man who owns the home declined to talk on the record.The lights started out as a joke “of military jest.” The owner, a veteran, has a friendly competition with his neighbor, Naval Academy musician Matt Harriman, to see who can “out-Griswold” each other with holiday lights each year.Since Harriman got his lights up first this year, he joked that the only way his neighbor could outdo him was to put up a display with some jingle balls. Harriman wasn’t serious, but when he returned from a walk just a few minutes later, the neighbor was taping the now-infamous lights to his roof.“I thought it would come down relatively quickly, but it’s spread around so fast,” Harriman said. “This has become a unifier for other people.”Cape St. Claire isn’t the first neighborhood with such a notorious home. Last year,when she put up a similar but slightly crooked light display on her roof to poke fun at the ‘uptight vibe’ of her neighborhood.But this year, amidst the coronavirus pandemic and the aftermath of a contentious election, Cape St. Claire neighbors said the display was more poignant than ever.Advertisement“I think it’s great. It’s the perfect representation of 2020,” Suzette Langley said last week as she walked her puppy by the home.Holly Sloan, who lives next door, said she and other people in the tight-knit block took photos in front of the house.
