Andrew Cuomo has denied accusations on Twitter that he harassed a female aide about her work and appearance years ago.The former aide, Lindsey Boylan, made her accusations on Twitter on Sunday. Earlier this month, she used Twitter to complain about a “toxic” workplace in Cuomo’s office when she worked there.Boylan is running for Manhattan borough president in next year’s municipal elections.“I heard about the tweet and what it said about comments that I had made and it’s not true,” Cuomo said during a Zoom briefing on Monday. “Look, I fought for and I believe a woman has the right to come forward and express her opinion and concerns that she has, but it’s just not true.”Background: Boylan was Cuomo’s deputy secretary for economic development and special adviser from March 2015 to October 2018.“Many saw it, and watched,” Boylan about the harassment she said she experienced. “I could never anticipate what to expect: would I be grilled on my work (which was very good) or harassed about my looks. Or would it be both in the same conversation? This was the way for years.”Shortly after Boylan’s public tweets, several news organizations posted personnel records that showed complaints including from three Black employees who said Boylan was a “bully” who “treats them like children.”What’s next: It’s unclear. Cuomo isn’t known for his bedside manner when it comes to management, and his decades in politics have very likely produced other disgruntled former employees who could feel emboldened to share their own stories. But Cuomo also has a devout following and a handful of women that they cannot recall a time when he displayed specifically inappropriate behavior toward a woman.Boylan, so far, has not clarified or expanded on her remarks. She simply followed up the thread with another : “To be clear: I have no interest in talking to journalists.”
