Groups unhappy with Gov. Tim Walz’s executive orders to close bars and fitness gyms as well as limiting family holiday gatherings have turned out with flags, signs and even BBQ to flaunt the restrictions on large groups.Only small groups of anti-protesters came out the past few weeks, but on Saturday, a large, organized group carrying antifa and Black Lives Matter signs and carrying wooden shields showed up just as the other protest was winding down, prompting police to set up barricades between the two groups.Minnesota State Patrol officers in riot gear formed echelons across Summit Avenue while St. Paul Police officers on bicycles or in squad cars blocked off other streets, keeping the protesters somewhat contained to one road.The two groups had a brief skirmish around 5 p.m. and shouted at each other across the barricades.One woman, Teresa Blair, described her encounter with the antifa group.“All of a sudden a bunch of antifa protesters tried to wrap me up in a big red banner and (a guy) snatched my phone then ran behind the black bloc shields and disappeared,” she said. “I tried to run after him and protesters blocked me with their shields, some guy shoved me then another guy blocked me from moving.”Once the counter protesters had moved on, walking together down Lexington Parkway, the original protesters moved toward their cars to discover their tires had been slashed, car windows had been vandalized with black spray paint and at least one had the antifa symbol scratched into the car’s hood.A person taking video at the scene counted at least 13 damaged cars on South Chatsworth Street.The SPPD reported that no force was used by officers.&nbsp;Police are investigating the property damage.Sign up for Newsletters and AlertsMost PopularClose
