Louisville Courier JournalView CommentsThe close to where Crystal Rogers went missing do not belong to her,&nbsp;according to&nbsp;the FBI Friday.&nbsp;The remains were discovered&nbsp;July 23 near the border of Nelson&nbsp;and Washington counties, the Nelson County&nbsp;Sheriff's Office said.&nbsp;"The FBI and our law enforcement partners understand that many in the community were hopeful that these remains would bring answers to the Crystal Rogers case," an emailed FBI news release states. "This latest development most certainly does not affect the unwavering resolves of the FBI personnel assigned to investigate the disappearance of Crystal Rogers."They still have not been identified, according to the sheriff's office.&nbsp;"Just like our community we were hopeful it would assist in answers and closure in Crystal Rogers case," the office said in a Facebook post. "The results on the human remains does not change their investigation or drive to bring closure and justice for the Ballard family and the citizens of Nelson County.Rogers was from the small, tight-knit town of Bardstown, about 40 miles south of Louisville. She went missing over Fourth of July weekend in 2015. Her mother reported her missing July 5 after she hadn't heard from her daughter in two days.Rogers' car was found abandoned on the Bluegrass Parkway with her keys, phone and purse still inside. Rogers, a mother of five children, was not known to go anywhere without her kids, according to the FBI.Rogers was dating&nbsp;Brooks Houck, an initial suspect, who is the father of one of her sons.&nbsp;Houck has denied involvement with Rogers'&nbsp;disappearance and has never been charged.The FBI has searched homes belonging to Houck, his brother and their mother, Rosemary Houck, the FBI confirmed to the Associated Press and local news outlets.Houck's brother, Nick, was a police officer with the Bardstown Police Department at the time and&nbsp;was fired after interfering in the investigation.The mayor of Bardstown said Nick Houck interfered with the investigation by phoning his brother July 8 when he knew Brooks was being interviewed by detectives.City officials held an administrative hearing on Nick Houck's actions and fired him a day later.USA Today contributed to this story.Contact Ayana Archie at aarchie@gannett.com or follow on Twitter @AyanaArchie.&nbsp;Support strong local journalism by subscribing to&nbsp;The Courier Journal.&nbsp;View Comments
