Dressed in orange and blue, Edwards held a sign reading "I need a kidney. O+" with his phone number.Thousands called and texted, but one year later, Edwards is still waiting and he recently admitted he constantly looks at his phone."Anytime it rings it's like 'Is that it?' You know, it's like waiting on Christmas," he told WLKY.There have been a few potential matches, but that perfect match, according to Edwards' doctors, just hasn't been found yet. For now, he continues dialysis at home, setting up the machine five times a week and even taking his own blood samples.Everything they do at the clinic, we were trained here to do at the house," he said, adding it was simply part of his "new normal."His Jeffersonville home not only serving as a dialysis center, but a school. With COVID-19 keeping his boys from the classroom, Edwards has taken on the role of teacher.And between the waiting and the 30 hours a week of dialysis, Edwards tells WLKY it is a welcome distraction."I don't have time to be down and depressed, you know. I've got a lot to live for," he said.That from a man who needs just one thing to live."There's always another day, always another person and we're going to keep trying.
