The assumption that growth can continue Unabated is impossible. Existing capitalism depends upon growth and expansion - this made possible by cheap energy, aka, burning huge amounts of cheap fossil fuels. It now takes us 10 times more energy just to get the energy out of the ground compared to the 1900s. As energy supplies get leaner and more scarce, resource extraction will taper off to levels that cannot support growth and expansion .
