But the Alamo will remain accessible during the day.H&amp;M and other stores in Alamo Plaza have boarded up their windows, also as a precaution.The historic Alamo, site of the Mission San Antonio de Valero and a well chronicled 13-day siege and battle for Texas independence, was at the center of unrest in June, amid protests following the May 25 death of George Floyd while in the custody of Minneapolis police, and clashes between demonstrators and police backed by Texas guardsmen.The Alamo Cenotaph was marked with graffiti, and a nighttime curfew specific to Alamo Plaza was imposed by the city temporarily, with security barricades in place during that period.Since then, many of the barricades have been removed, and the Alamo has re-opened to the public with rules on face coverings and social distancing in place during the pandemic. Access to the Alamo church provided through free timed tickets that can be accessed on the Alamo website, thealamo.org.Deputies with the Bexar County Sheriff’s Office have been directed to “remain vigilant around polling sites” today, but will not be stationing themselves in parking lots or anything that might pose an “overwhelming presence,” Bexar County Sheriff Javier Salazar told reporters Monday.Salazar, a Democrat facing a challenge from Republican candidate Gerard C. “Gerry” Rickhoff in today’s election, said he was on a Zoom call this week with sheriffs from Jefferson, Harris, Travis, Hidalgo and Webb counties.On ExpressNews.com:“Thankfully, at this point we have no credible threats of anything,” Salazar said.But he said he’s asked all deputies to report in full uniform to work all day and night today, and to be prepared for response in the days following the election.
