NEW!3,491sharesCLEVELAND, Ohio -- Myles Garrett’s MRI on Monday showed nothing ‘structurally significant’ in his knee, and he’ll 'definitely’ be available for the Texans after the bye on Nov. 15, Browns coach Kevin Stefanski said Monday."It’s obvious how much of an impact he makes in these games,'' Stefanski said Monday. "So, happy that we dodged a bullet and then we’ll just need him to come back on Wednesday and see if he’s ready to practice, and if he’s not, we’ll have a few days here to rest and then get ready to roll next week.''Garrett suffered the injury early in the game on a cut block, and played only 33 of 72 snaps (46%), including very few in the second half. In addition to the knee injury, Garrett headed into the game with an ankle injury suffered in practice heading into the Bengals game, and then tweaked during that 37-34 victory. He also had his right wrist numbed for the game from an issue he’s been dealing with.So the bye week came at the perfect time for the reigning AFC Defensive Player of the Month for October."I think he’s like a lot of our players eight games into this thing,'' Stefanski said. "Nobody’s 100% and you’ve got all sorts of nicks and bruises and those type of things, so he’s a warrior. He battles through these types of things but certainly the rest should help all the guys.''With Garrett missing most of the game, the Browns defense surrendered 208 yards rushing, allowed the Raiders to convert 8-of-14 third downs and both fourth downs, and possess the ball for 37:43 to 22:17. Stefanski lamented that the defensive line got knocked back by the Raiders' o-line.“I wouldn’t say it’s an attitude problem at all,'' he said. "In that game, we didn’t stop the run. We got at times out of our gap. Our technique wasn’t great. When your technique isn’t great, that’s when you’re going to get knocked back. We need to fit the run. When you fit the runs, just like anything, you need 11 guys to do their jobs. There were certain things throughout the game that contributed to that, but it is all correctable in my mind.”The news that Garrett had no significant structural damage in the knee was consistent with how he felt after about facing the Texans despite suffering the knee injury on perhaps the first play from scrimmage in Sunday’s 16-6 loss to the Raiders that dropped the Browns to 5-3."As long as I can walk on it or run on it, I’m going to try to play on it,'' Garrett said. “No matter how it feels the next two weeks, I will try to be out there unless they make a point of holding me out.”Stefanski also said that tight end Austin Hooper, who underwent an emergency appendectomy the Friday before the Bengals game, will definitely be back for the Texans. He sat out two games, against Cincy and the Raiders.As for running back Nick Chubb (knee) and guard Wyatt Teller (calf strain), Stefanski said they’re progressing but they’re still considered day-to-day. Their status will likely be updated after the bye.Garrett, who had his league-long six-game sack streak snapped, tried to gut it out on the painful knee, but he limped badly after trying to chase down Raiders quarterback Derek Carr on a second-quarter scramble out of bounds, and visited the medical tent.He sat out most of the rest of the game, except for a few snaps here or there, mostly on third down. He limped his way back to the sideline each time."I took a shot,'' he said. "I took a cut. It was one of the first plays, and from that first shot, it just kind of started just wearing on me. I just tried to play through it the best I could.''He said the injury is unrelated to the ankle injury that kept him out of practice on Wednesday and Thursday. Garrett initially tweaked the ankle the week before the Bengals game, and then reinjured it during the game."That’s its own issue,'' Mayfield said. " Just have to take care of both during the bye week."What’s more, Garrett revealed that the right wrist, which he has taped before each practice, was numbed for the game. The revelation came in response to a question about narrowly missing a strip of Carr on his opening drive."My right hand is numb because I took a numbing shot for something else that’s been going on this year,'' he said. “I thought I got enough of it to get it away from him and I had the tackle hanging on my back, but I thought I had a good shot on him, but he was able to slip through and he made a good play.”Garrett was slated for a full workload despite the ankle injury, until the knee thwarted those plans. He also lost sole possession of the NFL sack lead, with the Rams' Aaron Donald notching one to tie him with nine.With Garrett mostly idle, Olivier Vernon recorded his first two sacks of the season, but the Browns surrendered 208 yards rushing — including 128 by Josh Jacobs — and let the Raiders possess the ball for almost 38 minutes. They converted 8-of-14 third downs for 57.1%."We let them get through the front four or front five a little bit too easy,'' Garrett said. “(Jacobs) was squeezing through and getting up to the backers and linebackers without having to change direction and having to slow down. Those are tough tackles to make. We just have to be better.”The Browns lost the turnover battle 1-0, and Garrett didn’t have much of a chance to wreck the game like he usually does. Heading into the game, Raiders coach Jon Gruden heaped high praise on him, even saying "I wish we had Garrett.''The magnitude of losing the reigning AFC Defensive Player of the Month couldn’t be denied. The next leading sacker is Sheldon Richardson with 2.5."You see it,'' Hunt said. “He’s an X factor. He’s a big-time player on our defense. We definitely need him, but those guys, you have to have the next-man-up mentality. We know those are big shoes to fill, but we still have to find a way to win that game.”Baker Mayfield can usually count on a game-changing play from Garrett each week. He leads the NFL with four strip sacks"It always sucks to lose a guy like that,'' Mayfield said. “We pride ourselves on the next-man-up mentality, but like we said about Odell (Beckham Jr.), it’s not a one-man job to fill his shoes. That’s a guy that we love having here and love having on this team. The bye week is coming at a good time for us. Hopefully, it is nothing too serious and he can come back and continue to help us in a huge way like he has been.”Garrett wasn’t the only key player to miss all or most of this game. The Browns were also without receiver Odell Beckham Jr. (torn ACL), Hooper, Chubb and Teller."We’re not going to start now using excuses,'' Garrett said. “It’s a next-man-up league. Whatever happens on whatever team, you just have to take advantage of that. They took advantage of me being out and some of the guys we did have out. It’s a credit to them. They had a game plan, and they succeeded in going through with it and executing it.
