(WKRN) — Maury Regional Health told News 2 Friday afternoon it has reached its capacity for ICU beds.According to marketing director Rita Thompson, the center’s 26 intensive care unit beds are all occupied. In total, the hospital currently has 48 COVID-19 patients, 20 of whom are in the ICU.The hospital does have room for non-ICU patients. The facility has 220 beds, with 161 of being full.This information comes the same day , with 78 new deaths reported. October has marked the deadliest month for the pandemic, as well.The Tennessee Department of Health tells News 2 its two Alternate Care Sites are still available in Nashville and Memphis, should hospitals run out of room. However, those will only be opened if needed in what the state calls “unforeseen circumstances.”“We have been in close communication with hospitals across the state and share the concern regarding the rapid increase in hospitalizations in Tennessee. There are actions every Tennessean can take to reverse this concerning trend. It is critical that everyone wear masks in public. It is essential that everyone who has symptoms stay home and that cases stay home for at least 10 days in isolation. Those who have been exposed should stay home for 14 days to prevent asymptomatic spread. We need individuals, businesses and schools to work with local health departments and cooperate with us in contact tracing.”Statement from the Tennessee Department of HealthTDH says it is working closely with hospitals to help manage the surge.
