Staff will still be on the campuses but teaching virtually to kids at home.The seventh school, Gardendale Early Learning Program, will offer in-person classes even though the school is a voting location. Edgewood officials said voters won’t affect school activities since the polling site is located in an adjacent building.Alamo Heights, Somerset and Schertz-Cibolo-Universal City ISDs will have a regular school day.Required Reading:None of Alamo Heights or Somerset schools are Election Day voting locations. Only two of SCUC’s 16 schools will be polling places: Ray Corbett Junior High School in Bexar County and Marion Dolford Learning Center in Guadalupe County.Harlandale ISD cited Gov. Greg Abbott’s order allowing voters to go to the polls without masks as a reason to suspend classes. A judge has ruled against the governor’s order, but it is on hold while the Texas attorney general’s office continues to fight the ruling. Eight of Harlandale’s campuses are voting locations.“Your safety and well being is our number one priority and we are making this decision as a precautionary measure,” to parents and staffers.In Northside ISD, 72 schools and one district facility will be voting locations Tuesday. Its board of trustees voted in July to make Election Day a holiday for students. It is a professional development day for staff, but most will be allowed to work from home, NISD spokesman Barry Perez said. All professional development training will be conducted virtually, he said.In order to make Election Day a holiday, all but SAISD had to swap with other holidays in the year to make sure they complied with the state’s required instructional time. SAISD already had more than enough instructional minutes factored into its calendar, to parents earlier this month.On ExpressNews.com:North East and South San Antonio ISDs rearranged their calendars to replace what would have been a holiday for the Battle of Flowers parade.
