When she returned, the SUV was gone.Investigators found that someone drove the SUV north on California Avenue. They found it two hours later in the 1400 block of South Keeler Avenue but did not find the child. Police released photos of the boy in an endangered missing person alert.Prosecutors said Owens became “evasive with officers,” later giving them incomplete information about the location of her other two children and their babysitter. Owens gave detectives the wrong address to her babysitter, but they were eventually able to find the correct apartment building and apartment, prosecutors said.When the babysitter opened the front door, investigators immediately saw the boy sitting on the couch, authorities said.The babysitter said Owens had dropped all three children off that morning and was supposed to pick them up at 5 p.m., prosecutors said. When Owens didn’t return, the babysitter said she was unable to contact her. The boy’s 7-year-old brother identified the baby by name.Owens' court-appointed attorney said the mother of three was homeless and living in a shelter while working full-time as a caregiver.
