By | Bay Area News GroupRedwood Love opened in the Village last week, selling handmade gifts, jewelry, books, pottery, woodwork and the increasingly popular, wearable art.“We live in a neighborhood that appreciates the arts,” owner Julia Forte said. “People want handmade things, local arts and crafts, as opposed to people who would prefer shopping at Kmart.”When Forte noticed how visitors from out of town admired her photos of the local hills, she began putting them on mugs and notebooks. It was a hit, so she&nbsp;expanded her line into wearable art, putting her photographs of landscapes on blouses, skirts and leggings.Forte used to work in real estate as a lease analyst. To escape the hustle and bustle of Silicon Valley, she’d take her camera and hike in the Santa Cruz Mountains.Like the Saratoga News for neighborhood news and conversation from Saratoga and beyond.“I love hiking and I love redwoods,” Forte said.And, it turns out, she has a knack for marketing.During meetings, clients from out of the state or country noticed her photo screensavers on her laptop. As souvenirs, she put the photos on mugs. Then locals started asking for her signature mugs.When she printed her landscapes on her hiking leggings, fellow female hikers would ask after the unique leg warmers. This inspired pillows, lavender sachets, zipper pouches and drawstring backpacks, all displaying her wearable photography, and eventually, she was selling her products at different boutiques in Los Gatos and Saratoga and at craft fairs.All of it led her to opening Redwood Love.Now with a storefront, Forte has room to sell other artists’ work, too. Currently, Redwood Love is featuring handmade wooden pieces from Don Long, encaustic paintings by Linda Benenati, soaps and lotions by Art of the Woods and children’s books by Kathryn Beyers and Penelope Anne Cole, among other items.Redwood Love is located at 14440-6 Big Basin Way. Hours are Tuesday-Saturday from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. and Sunday from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. The store is closed Monday.
