Two more homicides occurred within hours of each other in Jackson.The first homicide occurred late Saturday afternoon on Woodbine Street and McDowell Rd. The second one occurred just hours later on Woodside Drive around 3 a.m. Sunday. This shooting was just a mile away from the first. These incidents add to a record homicide rate for 2020. They were the city's 104th and 105th deadly shootings. Officials said no one has an exact answer as to how to stop the violence.Stokes brought speakers from the Jackson Police Department, the Hinds County Sheriff's Department and U.S. Attorney Mike Hurst.Stokes wants federal law enforcement to work with JPD and Hinds County. He also said he wants to allocate more funding to law enforcement."Right now, we're on pace to hit about 128 murders. To put that into context, the most the city has ever had is 92, so we are going to exceed that by 40%," U.S. Attorney Mike Hurst said.
