You may opt-out by&nbsp;Oct 14, 2020,Facebook said Wednesday it would limit the reach of a New York Post article on Hunter Biden’s alleged emails with a Ukrainian businessman until third-party news organizations fact-check it, and hours later Twitter followed suit, restricting users from sharing the article on its platform.Andrew Stone, a spokesperson for Facebook, that the company was “reducing . . . distribution” of the article until the story is fact-checked by the platform’s third-party partners.&nbsp;The step is unusual for Facebook, as the company has consistently maintained a more to moderating content and misinformation on its platform, though that policy has in the lead-up to the election.Users who sought to share the article on Twitter Wednesday afternoon were met with an error message that said: “Something went wrong, but don’t fret—let’s give it another shot.”Clicking on old tweets linking to the article returned a page that read, “Warning: this link may be unsafe,” and detailed the company rules and regulations.In a statement to Forbes, a Twitter spokesperson said the company had restricted sharing of the article because it violated the company’s “Hacked Materials” .The purports to show emails from Vadym Pozharskyi, an advisor to the board of Burisma, to Hunter Biden thanking Hunter for introducing him to his father. The emails would suggest Joe Biden knew about his son’s business dealings in Ukraine, though Biden has claimed he did not know anything about his son’s business deals. The alleged meeting would have occurred just months before then vice president urged Ukrainian government officials to remove its prosecutor general, Viktor Shokin. Shokin later claimed he was fired because he was investigating Burisma, a company at which Biden’s son Hunter served on the board, but Joe Biden said he, as vice president of the U.S.—joined by several European countries—pushed for Shokin’s ouster because he was not prosecuting corruption cases. The Biden campaign dismissed the story, saying&nbsp; “we have reviewed Joe Biden's official schedules from the time and no meeting, as alleged by the New York Post, ever took place,” and that “two Republican-led Senate committees” had “reached the same conclusion: that Joe Biden carried out official U.S. policy toward Ukraine and engaged in no wrongdoing.”Republicans have been quick to claim a coverup, with the Trump campaign accusing Facebook of “rigging the election for Joe Biden.”(Bloomberg)&nbsp;or&nbsp;.&nbsp;my&nbsp;.&nbsp;.&nbsp;I cover national politics for Forbes.
