The state, as Gov. Mike DeWine noted today, remains over 1,000 new cases per day. The Ohio Department of Health reported 1,355 new COVID-19 cases in the state, bringing the total number of cases to 161,299.The number of new cases today is higher than the rolling 21-day average of daily cases, which is 1,039. These numbers include both cases confirmed by a viral test and cases that meet the CDC's definition of probable. There have been 151,983 confirmed COVID-19 cases to date, which account for 94% of total cases.There have now been 4,947 coronavirus-related deaths across the state, an increase of 16 over the previous day, lower than the 21-day average of 21.The ODH reported 136 new hospitalizations today, with 36 ICU admissions, both of which are higher than the 21-day average. During Gov. Mike DeWine's Tuesday press conference, he noted that although COVID-19 hospital admissions in Ohio had been declining since peaking in mid-July, hospitalizations are now trending upwards with an increasing number of hospitalizations in rural Ohio.The average age of hospitalized patients has also gone up in recent weeks. Ohioans 60 and older now account for approximately 70% of COVID hospital admissions, compared to 50% of hospitalizations in July."As we said earlier in August and September, spread among the young and healthy will eventually impact those who are older and more vulnerable, which is why it is so very important that younger Ohioans do all they can to prevent spread," said DeWine.Cleveland reported 29 new cases, bringing their total to 5,609. As of today, 138,807 Ohioans are presumed recovered from the disease, according to the ODH.There were 29,885 tests done on Oct. 6, the latest day from the ODH was available.
