A marginal risk is Level 1 out of 5 and means isolated severe storms will be possible:Alabama is expected to get some rain from Delta, but not as much as had been predicted earlier since Delta’s path has shifted westward and away from the state. Northwest and southwest Alabama could end up getting the most:Here’s a look at what to expect by region, according to the National Weather Service:SOUTH ALABAMAThe National Weather Service in Mobile continued to closely watch Delta’s progress on Thursday.Rain bands from the storm were moving onshore Thursday evening:⛈655pm - Rain band continues to slowly lift north across the area this evening. That rain could be heavy at times.The main effects from Delta will likely be felt on Saturday across south Alabama, forecasters said, as Delta moves farther inland and turns to the northeast.The National Hurricane Center said 1 to 3 feet of storm surge will be possible in Alabama, which is still cleaning up from Category 2 Hurricane Sally on Sept. 16.Areas well inland could also see gusty winds, heavy rain and the threat of tornadoes from Delta over the weekend.The tornado threat will be confined to mainly the southwest along and west of a line from Fort Morgan to Greenville, according to the weather service:Tornadoes will be possible from late Friday afternoon through Saturday.There will also be a high risk of rip currents in place through Saturday night, with a moderate risk on Sunday.CENTRAL ALABAMAThe National Weather Service in Birmingham said the main threat from Delta for central Alabama will be the possibility of severe weather on Saturday.The remnants of Delta will into north-central Mississippi by Saturday afternoon or evening.Forecasters will be watching for the possibility of tornadoes that could quickly develop in rain bands.Conditions aren’t ideal for tornadoes, and there is a marginal risk for severe weather across most of central Alabama:The main window for stronger storms will be from 1 p.m. until 9 p.m. Saturday, according to the weather service.The northwest part of the region is in line right now to get the most rain from the weakening storm.Two to 3 inches of rain will be possible for parts of west Alabama through Sunday. Areas south of Interstate 20 may only see a half-inch to an inch of rain.It will be breezy areawide, with wind gusts of 20-30 mph possible on Saturday afternoon.Rain from Delta may hang around into Sunday, according to forecasters.NORTH ALABAMARain chances will increase on Friday night, but north Alabama should see the most weather from Delta from Saturday into early Sunday, according to the National Weather Service in Huntsville.The weakening storm is forecast to track through northern Mississippi into Tennessee.Heavy rain and gusty winds will be possible on Saturday, with the possibility of severe weather on Saturday afternoon.Nearly all of north Alabama is in a marginal risk for severe weather on Saturday, but the weather service noted it’s still a low-confidence forecast and depends on Delta’s track as it nears Alabama.“The Saturday afternoon through Saturday evening timeframe will be the one to watch in terms of a favorable setup for tropical cyclone tornadoes,” the weather service said Thursday.Heavy rain will be possible at times, with areas in northwest Alabama possibly getting around 2 inches, with lesser amounts in eastern Alabama.
