I’M TIRED OF TALKING I’M TIRED OF TASK FORCES. I’M SAYING WHAT LEGISLATION CAN WE PASS THAT SIGNIFICANT BLACK FOLKS HAVE BEEN DISPROPORTIONATELY KILLED BY POLICE ARRESTED BY POLICE. VICTIMS OF EXCESSIVE FORCE SO WE HAVE TO LOOK AT THOSE NUMBERS. SHE SAYS SHE’S LOOKING FOR HELP ON BOTH SIDES OF THE AISLE TO LOOK AT CHANGES TO POLICING THE STUDY INCLUDING DISCUSSIONS ABOUT BODY CAMS, EXCESSIVE FORCE COLLECTIVE BARGAINING AGREEMENTS IN A DATABASE FOR OFFICERS WITH PREVIOUS EXCESSIVE FORCE VIOLATIONS IF THEY WERE FIRED AND LET GO WHY DO THEY GET TO JUST GO TO ANOTHER COUNTY AND WREAK HAVOC ON ANOTHER COMMUNITY ONE OF THE SPEAKER’S TODAY POINTING OUT HOW QUALIFIED IMMUNITY REFORM IS KEY AND POLICE REFORM. INCLUDES RULES THAT KEEPS OFFICERS FROM BEING SUED, EVEN IF IT’S ONLY A SMALL MINORITY OF OFFICERS WHO ARE COMMITTING THIS KIND OF EGREGIOUS MISCONDUCT WHEN THEY AVOID ACCOUNTABILITY ALL OFFICERS SUFFER THAT REPUTATIONAL LOSS A GOOD ONE TELLS ME SHE DOES EXPECT PUSHBACK, BUT IT WON’T STOP HER FOR PUSHING FOR CHANGE. Regina Goodwin said.Goodwin didn’t mince her words Tuesday afternoon during the study on law enforcement reform in Oklahoma.“I’m tired of talking. I’m tired of task forces. I’m saying what legislation can we pass that’s significant?” Goodwin said. “Black folks have been disproportionately killed by police, arrested by police or victims of excessive force, so we have to look at those numbers.”She said she’s looking for help on both sides of the aisle to look at changes to policing. The study included discussions about body cameras, excessive force, collective bargaining agreements and a database for officers with previous excessive force violations.“If they were fired and let go, why do they get to just go to another county and wreak havoc on another community?” Goodwin said.One of the key speakers pointed out how qualified immunity reform is key in police reform, and that includes rules that keep officers from being sued. He said even though a small minority of officers are committing egregious misconduct, all officers suffer reputational loss when they avoid accountability. Goodwin told KOCO 5 that she expects pushback, but it won’t stop her from pushing for change. “We’ve got to keep trying.
