NO. WE ARE NOT CALIFORNIA. WE’RE NOT PORTLAND. WE’RE NOT SEATTLE. WE STAND UP FOR LAW ENFORCEMENT HERE. THE POLICY ALLOWS ICE FULL ACCESS TO THE COUNTY JAIL AND PLACES A 48-HOUR DETAINER ON PEOPLE THE MOVE COMES JUST WEEKS AFTER THE NEWLY CREATED JAIL. IT’S IN THE LEASE AGREEMENT THE OKLAHOMA COUNTY COMMISSIONERS ACTUALLY ARE STILL THE OWNER OF THE JAIL. WE LEASE IT TO THE JAIL TOUR. COMMISSIONER BLOOMERS SAID IN A STATEMENT QUOTE IF TODAY’S ACTION STANDS THE TRUST WILL BE ANYTHING BUT INDEPENDENT IT WILL BE CONTROLLED BY THE WHIMS OF TO COUNTY COMMISSIONERS ACTING UNDER GUYS OF POLICY CRITICS OF THE POLICY ARE ALSO WORRIED ICE WILL UNFAIRLY TARGET MINORITY GROUPS. Calvey and Brian Maughan voted in favor of doing so while Carrie Blumert was the lone no vote.“We are not California. We're not Portland. We're not Seattle. We stand up for law enforcement here,” Calvey said.The policy allows ICE full access to the Oklahoma County Jail. It also places a 48-hour detainer on people.“We do have the authority. It's in the lease agreement. The Oklahoma County commissioners are still the owners of the jail. We lease it to the jail trust,” Calvey said.Blumert said in a statement that “if today’s actions stand, the trust will be anything but independent.
