By | | Boston HeraldConvicted ISIS terrorist David Daoud Wright of Everett — part of a terror cell out to “kill boys in blue” — was resentenced Monday to 30 years in prison and a lifetime of supervision.Wright, brought back to Boston, fought back tears as he told the judge he was flawed, but he did not apologize.“I have learned more about myself in nearly three years incarcerated than I had in almost 30 years of life,” he told federal Judge Douglas Woodlock. “What exactly have I learned? I’m still learning things. … I’m an imperfect creature like everybody else in need of perfection from the creator.”He added police had been among his “mentors” and he once considered going to college to one day be a “federal probation officer.” He said “snippets from phone calls” of his terror cell conspiring to kill “boys in blue” was not his “reality.”He added, tearfully, that he’s “missed 16 funerals … weddings, graduations” while in an Indiana prison.Protesters outside the U.S. District Court in South Boston called for Wright’s freedom as his defense attorney, Jessica Hedges, said inside the courtroom he was just a “misfit” who “retreated into (an) online world” where he had “fantastical” thoughts.Hedges also said because Wright is obese, COVID-19 poses a threat to him while behind bars.Woodlock sentenced Wright to five years for obstruction and 25 for conspiracy. He also ordered him to be supervised for the rest of his life once his prison stint is up. He told Wright his affiliation with ISIS was a “very serious offense” and not just “whiskey-talk.”Assistant U.S. Attorney B. Stephanie Siegmann asked for life in prison because she said Wright remains “radicalized” and a threat. He was sentenced to 28 years in prison two years ago, but an appeals court overturned one count of aiding ISIS.Siegmann also said Wright was disciplined in prison for having an ISIS flag in his cell along with the “emblem” of the ISIS morality police — “the most-feared branch of ISIS,” she said.“He hated the United States and wanted to see police die,” Siegmann said, “and he planned to behead (conservative blogger) Pam Geller.”In a victim-impact statement filed with the court, Geller writes: “If Daoud Wright ever walks free, no matter how old he may be at that time, I will not be safe, and those whom I love will not be safe.”Geller adds: “It is impossible to overstate the devastation that Daoud Wright has brought to my life and that of members of my family. Not only did he target me for a brutal, cruel and violent death, but he targeted also some of my close relatives, and this will never be over.”Wright was found guilty of plotting to behead police officers and Geller. Wright was also found guilty over his role in urging his uncle, Usaamah Abdullah Rahim, 26, to attack police.Rahim was fatally shot June 2, 2015, in a Roslindale parking lot by police and federal agents while brandishing a 13-inch fight knife.
