He moved to center and shortly after, earned a spot on the Sabres roster. From there, he carved out a role as a defensive presence. He was a key penalty killer for Buffalo in 2019-20 and also lined up for critical faceoffs late in games.&nbsp;His determination and positive mindset led the Buffalo chapter of the Pro Hockey Writers Association to name him the , awarded annually to the NHL player "who best exemplifies the qualities of perseverance, sportsmanship, and dedication to hockey." He had played in only one NHL game the season before in Calgary's organization."Curtis established himself as an important player for the organization last season and we're excited to see him stay with the Sabres for the next two seasons," general manager Kevyn Adams said in a statement. I'm going to be very physical and strong."Lazar, 25, recorded 14 points (6+8) in 18 games with Rochester - leading the team in points per game (0.78) - and then posted 10 points (5+5) in 38 NHL games last year. Of Sabres players who took at least 100 faceoffs, he led the team with a career-best 51.3 win percentage, including a 52.9 percent success rate in the defensive zone.&nbsp;"I'm just entering my prime," .
