TERRY WAGNER SAY THEY’RE PLEASED THE BALLOT INITIATIVE WAS NOT ABOUT MEDICAL MARIJUANA BECAUSE IT WAS NOT GOING TO BE PRESCRIBED BY A DOCTOR WAS NOT GOING TO BE DISTRIBUTED. The mothers volunteered with the group Nebraskans for Medical Marijuana. The petition needed 130,000 signatures and ended up gathering over 182,000 names.State Sen. Anna Wishart helped lead the petition initiative."We collected enough signatures in the middle of a global pandemic, and the secretary of state certified us. Just to have the opposition throw up a lawsuit and for it to fail in the Supreme Court feels like a kick to the gut," she said.Gov. Pete Ricketts and Lancaster County Sheriff Terry Wagner told KETV Newswatch 7 they're pleased with the court's ruling."The ballot initiative was not about medical marijuana, because it was not going to be prescribed by a doctor. It was not going to be distributed through a pharmacy," said Ricketts. "It wasn't a real medical thing.""It encompassed a whole bunch of different aspects that I think should probably be legislated," said Wagner.Wagner filed the lawsuit trying to block the issue from getting on the ballot, saying the proposed amendment was unconstitutional.Hochstein said their family put off brain surgery because medical marijuana would be an easier option for her son, but she's not ready to give up."When I'm ready to pick up the pieces, my fight will continue.
