(WTNH) — Naugatuck police have identified the suspect Tuesday who is wanted in connection with an officer-involved shooting that occurred Monday.Police said the incident stemmed from a traffic stop that occurred on Monday night at around 8 p.m. on the Route 8 northbound on-ramp at Maple Street. Naugatuck officers had conducted that stop on an orange Dodge Charger with the Ohio registration HQJ2680.According to police, the driver of that vehicle was identified as 24-year-old Roznovsky Machado, of Waterbury.During that traffic stop, Connecticut State Police said Sergeant Nicholas Kehoss, who has been with the department for 10 years, had discharged his weapon at the vehicle while Machado allegedly drove at him.“During the course of this traffic stop, the officer discharged his weapon at the vehicle while it drove at him,” said Deputy Chief Colin McAllister.Kehoss was taken to an area hospital for treatment of minor injuries and was released. He is currently on administrative duty.It was confirmed that Machado was the only person in that car at the time of the incident. According to Naugatuck police, he is known to law enforcement.Connecticut State Police will be handling the investigation regarding the officer-involved shooting portion of the incident.“At the request of the Fairfield State’s Attorney office, our Western District Major Crime Squad detectives were requested to assume the investigation into the officer-involved shooting,” said trooper Josue Dorelus.The vehicle operated by Machado, a rental car, was later found in the City of Waterbury.Police said they don’t know the extent of Machado’s injuries but that any person with information on his whereabouts is urged to contact police at (203) 729-5221 or the NPD Confidential Tip Line at (203) 720-1010.NPD is currently looking for Machado. They hold an outstanding arrest warrant for him for the following charges: criminal attempt at assault, assault, reckless endangerment, evading responsibility with physical injury, operating under suspension and assault on an officer.The other officer involved in the incident has been identified as Officer Kevin Zainc. He has been with the department for 15 years and three months.State police will be releasing the body camera footage from the incident within the next few days.
