By | | Pioneer PressIf all goes as planned, safety George Iloka will return to the Vikings by the end of this week.According to a source, Iloka, who played with Minnesota in 2018, was in the Twin Cities on Tuesday to undergo coronavirus testing. Iloka, who worked out last month with the Vikings, could be signed to the 53-man roster before Sunday’s game at Indianapolis.Iloka was not on an NFL roster last season after playing in all 16 games, with three starts, for Minnesota in 2018. Iloka played from 2012-17 in Cincinnati, where his defensive coordinator for his first two seasons was Vikings head coach Mike Zimmer.The Vikings began the season with Harrison Smith and Anthony Harris as the only safeties on the roster. Last Saturday, they signed Nate Meadors off the practice squad to be the No. 3 safety. Meadors, who played cornerback last season before changing positions, was not needed for any defensive snaps in Sunday’s 43-34 loss to Green Bay in the opener.One reason the Vikings did not try to sign Iloka last week was that salaries for vested veterans become guaranteed for the season if they are on the roster through Week 1.
